What is the German Opportunity Card?

The German Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) is a new points-based immigration system that allows skilled workers from non-EU countries to come to Germany for up to one year to seek employment. Unlike traditional work visas, you don't need a job offer before applying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Family reunification is possible once you secure a qualified job and convert to a regular work permit. During the initial 12-month job search period, family members cannot join you on the Opportunity Card.

Once you secure a qualified job offer, you can convert your Opportunity Card to a regular EU Blue Card or German work permit without leaving Germany. The process typically takes 2-4 weeks.

There's no upper age limit, but applicants under 35 receive additional points in the scoring system. Older applicants need to compensate with higher qualifications or better language skills.
